My First Home Pregnancy Test
Original Date: 12 July 2011
Janell to dear husband: "Hey, my period's late and I don't know if it's just late or if I'm pregnant." In the interest of avoiding giving too much information we'll just say that it was still ever so slightly plausible that I might not be pregnant.
A few days later, "Hey, my period's never been this late, I've purchased a pregnancy test. Disclaimer: I wrote to Sprinkles and asked for a brand recommendation. She won't tell anyone and likely won't even ask unless I bring the subject up again." (Why, yes, I do think I say things like "Disclaimer:" when speaking.)
A few hours later, "Hey, might as well use this test? Do you think I should?" minor freaking out ensues. DH reads the instructions while I loose all ability to be rational.
"Ok, you watch the clock and time this thing... What does that say? No, I think that's a negative... it's only one line. Maybe we should have sprung for the digital one, but it just seems silly to pee on a something with a microprocessor. What? You read the instructions? Oh, yeah, that is perpendicular. That's positive, I guess. Positive. Uh, positive. Yeah."
So that is how DH and I determined that I was pregnant.
In good news, I can now openly shop for baby patterns without having to justify, "No! Not for me! Well, yes, maybe someday I hope to use it. But not for me! Totally for a friend. Lotsa pregnant friends these days.... well, ok, one, but that's a lot."
Update 7 Oct 2011: Ok, that one now actually has a kid now and I still haven't put the buttons on her gift. The lack of buttons is another post.
